Here's a look at this week's activities:
#GBO
This Wednesday, 8 JAG students attended the York Regional Career Day held at the Holthus Convention Center in York. Participation in this event allowed students to hear from keynote speaker, Johnny Quinn – USA Olympic bobsledder and former NFL player. Out of the many things he shared with us, he stressed the importance of being ready for unexpected opportunities that come our way; to embrace them and be comfortable in the uncomfortable.
Students were also able to attend a job fair, visiting with many employers about the career opportunities they have for them RIGHT NOW! Whether that be through job shadowing, interning, or working part-time! In addition, students attended three different panels that correlated with the different career clusters (Ex: entrepreneurship, manufacturing, human services, business & marketing, etc.). Students were able to hear directly from people working in those careers, their journey’s to where they are now, the sweet and sour of each career, and challenges or obstacles they navigated through.
A couple quotes I heard from students afterwards that made me smile were, “This really helped me decide what I want to do after high school,” and “I thought I knew what I wanted to do, but now I’m not sure.” While this second comment may seem backwards, it really speaks to if you open yourself up to different opportunities, they will present themselves to you.
We look forward to attending this Career Day again in the future for more students to experience it!

Due to the inclement weather conditions and the storms that are expected to come later, the Polk County Quad JH track meet that is scheduled for today has been canceled.

Today we held our bulldog Pride Drawing! Teachers give out these tickets when they see a student going above and beyond in and out of the classroom. This weeks prize was a $10 Diary Queen Gift Card.
The winners this week are Kalisyn Prososki & Chloe Schott for always going above and beyond!

Congratulations to our 2025 Prom Court
💸 7th grade math has been working on % problems recently and today they were charged with looking through coupons and finding the best deals at a restaurant where they could only use certain coupons for a mobile order and others for a drive-through order to spend the least amount of money! The super couponing winners were Layton Burritt, Milo Vaughn, and Will Peterson with a subtotal of $17.30 (the 2nd place team spent $17.50!)

The sophomore pancake feed is going on today from 11:00-1:00! Tickets are available at the door, and proceeds go to help fund next year's prom!
On Thursday, over 160 high school students had the incredible opportunity to connect with legislators, share the impact of JAG Nebraska
and advocate for the needs of our students. One of the most powerful moments was hearing directly from students about what JAG has done for them—how it has shaped their confidence, provided opportunities, and given them a sense of belonging and purpose.
Students Ashton (10), Cale (10), and Jackson (10) enjoyed participating in a self-guided tour of the Capitol, while also completing missions for a Scavenger Hunt. We learned about the history of the building and many historical figures who are featured in the hall of fame. We also took some time to listen to a wonderful music choir that had the opportunity to sing in the Rotunda that day. The students particularly enjoyed listening to Governor Pillen speak and hearing the Senators advocate for their policies during the floor session. We were also able to visit with our Senator, Jana Hughes, sharing our career goals and how JAG has positively influenced us.
A huge thank you to our Governor and policymakers who took the time to engage in these meaningful conversations. Together, we are building a stronger future for Nebraska’s youth!
P.S. - We tried to find Cameron the Capitol Cat, but he must have been napping somewhere or off on an adventure! 🐈⬛
