On Tuesday, JAG students Ashton M. (10), Jackson B. (10), Jessalyn P. (11), Graci C. (11), Taytum T. (11), Kayleigh E. (10), Ellissa N. (12), Liah C-P (10) were able to visit WellBeing Initiative in Lincoln. WellBeing Initiative (WBI) is a non-profit organization that was first established in 2020. WBI is a Peer Run Organization, meaning that every staff member identifies as a Peer, or someone who has lived experience walking their own path of recovery. It is a forward-thinking organization in how it focuses on building sustainable supports and programming to create communities that are recovery focused and ensuring there are resources and opportunities for people to engage in within the realm of recovery and wellness. Students were given a tour of the facility and were able to learn about peer support and visit with a staff panel, giving us insight into their Training & Education available to those interested in facilitating peer support, the Wellness & Education available to the community, as well as the administrative and IT side of the organization. Additionally, students got to hear about the importance of a healthy work-life balance. A healthy work-life balance in this career field is vital to ensure that staff can provide the best support possible. This type of job can be very emotionally draining, and it is important to take time for self-care. To end our visit at WBI, we took some time to experience a mock-trial support group session. They took us through a couple of activities they use to help facilitate conversation within a support group and to help members feel welcomed and comfortable. We received some fantastic resources to help us identify when we need to take more time for self-care, strategies for creating and sustaining a healthy work environment, as well as tips on using supportive language in a Trauma-Informed environment. WellBeing Initiative is an incredible organization that creates an immeasurable impact on communities in Nebraska, and we are so lucky to have been able to visit with their staff to learn about what they do. To learn more about WellBeing Initiative, please visit wellbeinginitiative.org, follow them on Facebook, or contact Ms. Mumm.

FCS 1 girls have all finished their aprons. They had to create a pattern, lay out design, cut out aprons, fold, iron and sew the straps, embroidered their names on them and sewed them. They will use these aprons when they cook! #ohsbulldogs #CTEeduation

January
High School JAG students have had the opportunity this semester to receive JAG Bucks in class to earn special incentives. Students can earn JAG Bucks by sharing aloud what they've written in their journals, volunteering to give their thoughts or feedback, showing leadership, being actively engaged in class, and showing responsibility by letting Ms. Mumm know when they will be gone. Our JAG Store is open on the 2nd & 4th Friday every month and students are able to purchase drinks and snacks they have requested be available. On every 4th Friday of the month, students can also participate in an auction, where the highest bidder can receive: 》A free journal entry 》Late work reprieve 》Extra credit points 》Teach a lesson for a day ...and more! Students who receive incentives through the auction get a card they can then turn in at any time during the semester. They all look forward to these days and highly enjoying the snacks and drinks they can purchase. This is a fun way to increase participation, engagement, and connection in the classroom!
