For the last 3 weeks, Mrs. Klemmensen's Art 3 and 4 class have been working on such an incredible service learning project! Every student picked out an animal available for adoption from Blue River Pet Rescue in Seward, NE, then painted the cutest pet portraits you've ever seen. The students hoped to surprise the families that were interested in adopting the animals they had carefully studied for weeks, but to THEIR surprise, all but three of the animals chosen have already found their forever homes!
The wonderful director of BRPR, Caleb, assured us that the paintings will still be quite the surprise for adopters to receive in the mail. We spent the rest of the day meeting each and every furry friend waiting to meet their families, and learned more about the amazing work all of the volunteers at the rescue do for these animals. These pet portraits will be enjoyed long after these students graduate, and our students saw how meaningful a work of art can truly can be. And, just look at those smiles! I think we all learned just how special these pets truly are, and the importance of adopting.

JAG students attended Technology Day at SCC Lincoln, where they explored the wide range of careers and skills available through SCC’s technology-focused degree programs. In today’s world, technology skills are essential across nearly all industries and are no longer limited to IT-related careers. Individuals who can understand, utilize, and leverage technology are better prepared for success in any field.
During the visit, students participated in a variety of hands-on learning experiences, including:
• 3D design using industry software
• AI and augmented reality experiences
• Robotics programming
• Assembly and soldering of a lie detector
• Building automotive circuits
• Tire rotation races
• Working with cybersecurity tools
…and more!
We look forward to visiting SCC Milford soon to learn more about transportation services and related career pathways.

Last week, Beth Sparrow, owner of Polk County News, visited two JAG classes to share insights into her career in communications. One of the students’ biggest takeaways was understanding the differences between operating a newspaper in a small community versus a larger one. Students also learned about the extensive behind-the-scenes work involved in the industry, including securing advertisements, collecting the finished newspapers each week, and distributing them to local businesses. In addition, Beth discussed her role in designing and creating Bulldog posters that highlight games and competitions throughout the school year. We greatly enjoyed hearing from Beth and gaining a deeper understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities within this career field. Thank you for visiting and sharing your knowledge with us, Beth! 📰
