When you put together some simple country folk, a bride from the valley, a groom from the city, and some wicked good apples.... you get some District One Act Champions! Your #OHS Bulldogs are headed to State One Act next Thursday, December 12 in Norfolk. If you missed the public performance last night, you have one last chance to catch all the action!

Here's a look at our first week of December activities! #GBO

This last Thursday, 7 Sophomores, Juniors, & Seniors were able to visit the 385 Firefighter Station through Metro Community College. Students got an overview of the shift’s firefighters are expected to work, the other programs of study available in the Health Professions field through Metro, and requirements needed of students to apply to the Fire Science Technology program. Students were also told that they can take FREE courses through Metro Community College to kickstart their education and knowledge into this line of work.
Our first hands-on experience was engaging with a Virtual Reality simulator allowing students to identify what is the most important part of a fire to focus on first – which is saving the houses of residents in the direct line of where the fire will travel to. This was an incredibly difficult simulation for the students to defeat! We were able to watch what was happening in the simulation while students were connected to it, allowing us to learn from what we’re seeing. Next, we were taken on a tour of the training building they use when practicing skills and learning new skills. Students got to try to move the dummy that firefighters practice saving from the building (which was very, very heavy). Finally, the recruiter for Omaha Fire Department & Metro Community College Fire Department communicated his expectations for his students/employees. He told students that firefighters are interacting with people on one of the worst days of their lives. He expects them to uphold integrity, professionalism, passion, and discipline. He says that no excuses, a good attitude, and effort are key to succeeding in our future careers.
We appreciated hearing about what employers look for, getting an honest look into what work life is like, and how students need to prepare for that now. This was such a great experience! Visit https://www2.mccneb.edu/afalanding/afahealthl for more information on programs of study within the Health Professions area.

One Act is hosting their public performance for the community on Sunday, December 1st at the Osceola Auditorium. We hope to see you all there!!!
