What Dreams May Come . . . CAREER PLANNING

    In intricate piece of education is career planning. Students who focus on goals and plans are more equipped to experience success both in the classroom and after high school graduation. Embracing these thoughts, the following activities have been/will be taking place during this school year

    Nebraska Career Information System. Not only are students given time to explore this valuable tool during scheduled guidance meetings, but also this system is available to them online any time they want.

    Junior Shadow Day, Fall. Juniors have the opportunity to schedule a job shadow for the entire day.  Typically, we ask that they stay within a 30 mile radius of Osceola, however, they may go further with parent/school permission.  All students are responsible for their own transportation.  Confirmation of the shadow experience will take place and all students are required to turn in contact information to the counseling office two weeks before the shadow takes place.  Students will be required to write a paper in Junior English class over their shadow experience, as well as research on their chosen career.  

        Pinnacle Bank Sophomore Shadow Day, Spring. The Pinnacle Bank sponsors a Sophomore Shadow Day and makes arrangements with local businesses to spend a morning getting to know our area careers, hosts a luncheon, and provides a speaker with œlocal roots to talk to the students about his/her career journey. This will be the ninth year for this event that makes students aware of opportunities in our community.

        Eighth Grade Career Day, Spring. Central Community College hosts a career day for grades 8-10. Osceola's eighth grade will attend this year. The Central Community College Career Fair will consist of two main events: 

  • Hands-On Career Exploration Activities. CCC's goal is to have at least 24 booths from different businesses representing various career clusters. These activities will be hands-on where students will get to experience various careers in an interactive manner.  The college will do our best to have careers represented from all of the 16 Nebraska Career Education Career Fields & Cluster Models.
  • Career & Life Skills Activities.  The college will be providing interactive group activities that will include: 1. Interviewing Techniques; 2. Dress for Success Interview & Job Hunting Attire; 3.Money Smart Financial Education Life Skills; and 4. Job Application Process.  Students will select three of the four to attend in this section.
