AdvancEd National Accreditation Gives Osceola High Marks!
I wanted to take a moment to share with you all that this was a very exciting year academics, athletics and activities. We also wanted to share with you that OPS celebrated its 100th year of district accreditation this year. This long-standing accreditation is something we are extremely proud of and stands as a testament to the great programs, staff, students and community that we are all apart of. As part of our accreditation OPS goes through a school improvement external review evaluation every five years. During this visit a team lead by highly qualified educators spends three days rating and ranking our school across a wide array of curricular, programmatic, staffing and student milestones. The external team is given evidence that has been gathered and prepared by district staff over the past three years which gives the team access to all practices and procedures within the district. There are many tools that are used in the State of Nebraska to rate schools, but we feel this process is one that carries with it a large amount of integrity and validity. This extensive process does not just provide a snap shot of our district but a thorough extensive review of the district system wide.
Our staff worked very hard over the last five years to showcase OPS as the amazing school district it is and I am proud to share that our rating in the five key areas of curriculum, using data, teaching and learning budget and finance and governance and leadership were all rated as very well. The external team left OPS expressing we truly exemplified excellence across the board. The external review team also gave us a few areas to grow as we move into the next five-year school improvement cycle.
The first suggestion is that OPS create one model for curriculum design. In response to this your administrative team and the support of ESU 7 will work on developing OPS Guiding Principles for Teaching & Learning. These principles will define the things that OPS students, staff and community believe about teaching and learning through a adopted set of belief statements for years to come. We will be using Robert Marzano’s framework to guide us through this process as it is research and evidenced based and fosters our current belief system.
The next suggestion is that we need to continue to improve upon our teaching and learning model by utilizing and expanding the opportunities that can be provided by our highly qualified seasoned staff. There is a wealth of knowledge amongst our district staff and our leadership team is working hard to develop staff development opportunities throughout the year for the students.
With the summer ahead your administrative team and board with carefully review the details provided in the accreditation report and review our districts strategic plan and board goals to continue to do everything we can to make sure OPS stays bulldog strong. If you have any further questions about the accreditation process, please contact you building administrator.
Thank you and enjoy the rest of your summer.
Mr. Maynard, Principal
