Brain Battle 2018

On February 14, the Middle School and High School Quiz Bowl teams made the trek to Dorchester, Nebraska, for the annual Crossroads Conference Quiz Bowl competition. The Middle School team of Caleb Peterson, Colton Kirby, Kyle Hasenkamp, Alexx Winkleman, Kolton Neujahr, Katrina Caraway, and Captain, Blaike Bryan, started out the day with an overtime win against county rival Cross County, winning with a buzzer beater by Caleb Peterson. However, the morning Quiz Bowl squad eventually fell to strong teams from Hampton and East Butler, finishing 2-2 and sixth out of thirteen teams!

As for the afternoon competition, due to unforeseen circumstances, the high school team arrived a little late, leaving Derek Voigt to face the Hampton Hawks by himself. Believe it or not, he was able to pull the upset victory over a full Hampton team 25-20. The Bulldog brainiacs, now having a full team of Tanner Kropatsch, Curtis Hasenkamp, Corby Cannon, Brody Ienn, Ben Lohrman, Wynn Cannon, and Mollie Rathjen present, were able to pull out a fifth-place conference finish, ending the tournament 3-2. Congratulations to both Osceola teams on representing the school well among stiff Crossroads Conference competition.

Fortunately, both Quiz Bowl teams will have another chance to test their wits at the district meets later this year. Good luck to the Quiz Bowl teams on the rest of their season!
